Erepsin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erepsin ( Greek : ereipo - I smash ) is an outdated name for peptidases . In 1901 Otto Cohnheim discovered that extracts from the lining of the intestine break down peptides . He called the ferment (enzyme) that he blamed for it, Erepsin. It was only later found out that erepsin is a complex mixture of different peptidases, i.e. protein-degrading digestive enzymes .
