The Wewelsburg Memorial and Memorial Site 1933–1945 is a museum in the East Westphalian town of Büren in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The museum is located near the main entrance to the Wewelsburg in a former SS guard building. It houses the permanent exhibition "Ideology and Terror of the SS". In addition to the history of the Schutzstaffel , especially in Wewelsburg , it deals with the fate of the prisoners in the local Niederhagen concentration camp .

Visiting the museum is free of charge.

exhibition

The 2010 exhibition aims to deal with the people in particular, with both the victims and the perpetrators. The exhibition deals with the SS as an organization in one room and also documents some of the résumés of SS members. There are also exhibits on the propaganda of National Socialism. In another room there are exhibits about the Niederhagen concentration camp , including a model, and especially about the inmates, such as prisoner clothing. There are also videos and sound recordings with reports from contemporary witnesses.

North tower

The memorial and memorial also includes the two lower floors of the north tower of the Wewelsburg , in which the so-called crypt and a room for SS-Obergruppenführer are located. However, access to this is only possible to a limited extent.
