The memorial cross for Eckernförde was donated in 1851 for Sachsen-Coburg participants in the battle near Eckernförde .

The war memorial of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was intended as an award for the Saxe-Coburg troops who had participated in the Schleswig-Holstein uprising . The award was graded in bronze for ordinary soldiers and in silver for officers.

The decoration was a cross with a crowned “E” on the obverse and the word “Eckernförde” underneath. The date "5. April 1849 “was written on the lapel .
