Reimbursement Code

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reimbursement Code ( EKO ) contains the medicines paid for by the Austrian health insurance companies and their prices. The code was first published on January 1, 2005 by the Main Association of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions and replaced the list of medicinal products . The code contains the allocation of drugs in a so-called box system and their classification using the ATC code .

Medicines that do not require a permit are defined in the green box . The yellow box is divided into a light yellow one, which contains preparations that, prescribed with the appropriate specified indication, do not require prior approval, but are instead submitted to the so-called ex-post control. Preparations from the dark yellow box must be approved in advance by the chief physician. The red box contains the preparations for which an application for inclusion in the reimbursement code has been submitted. A previous chief medical authorization must be here in any case. The red area is only published on the Internet.

The reimbursement code is changed monthly. This makes it difficult to follow the current rules correctly if the prescriptions are not checked using software and the current data status.
