The First Hoyerswerda Sculpture Symposium was an international symposium organized by Jürgen von Woyski in the summer of 1975 by artists from the GDR and Eastern European countries. The meeting took place under the title "Peace, Happiness and Friendship" in Hoyerswerda .

history

Von Woyski got the idea for the symposium after a trip to Czechoslovakia . Woyski later wrote that he wanted to see the different handwriting of artists also realized in his city . The Association of Visual Artists of the GDR was co-organizer of the symposium .

The eight-week symposium took place in the Hoyerswerda Zoo next to the eagle enclosure. Most of the work was done with Reinhardtsdorfer sandstone and Cotta sandstone . The sculptures were to be set up in the courtyard of the local supply complex on Kühnichter Heide in Hoyerswerda residential complex IX.

The first sculpture symposium was followed by eight more every two years until 1989.

Participants and works

In addition to von Woyski, Peter Kern, a sculptor from Berlin, took part. International artists were Alexander Ilecko from the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia, Zygfried Korpalski from Poland, Joszef Seregi from Hungary and the Soviet sculptor Jurij Orechow .

Kern created the sculpture crouching , Ilecko mother with child . Orechow designed a tree of happiness , Seregi a seated figure with the title Waiting for the rain . Korpalski represented the evolution . Jürgen von Woyski made a sculpture with the title Aufbruchende Frucht . The collaborative work of the artists is called Peace, Happiness, Friendship , which gave the symposium its name.

In 2009, the sculptures were moved from residential complex IX to the sculpture park on Einsteinstrasse in Hoyerswerda. Steinmetz Steffen Springer also removed algae, dirt and graffiti from the sculptures.
