The verb eruieren ( borrowed from the Latin eruere , for “to find out, to dig out”; associated noun eruierung ) is a frequently used foreign word in sophisticated colloquial language that describes various forms of research. It can refer to almost all types of detection, investigation, and survey in science and everyday life. Often people or facts are also determined in the context of criminal investigations .

If the determination is viewed exclusively as a process of data acquisition, then it makes sense and, if successful (if data is available), validation , i.e. checking the validity of the knowledge gained . The verification or falsification of the data can be determined as the result .
