Archangel Michael Church (Katowice)
The Archangel Michael Church in Katowice is a scrap wood church from the 16th century. It is located in Kościuszko Park in the Brynów district .
history
The church building, originally erected in 1510 in Syrynia (Syrin) in the powiat Wodzisławski , was moved to Katowice in 1938. In Syrynia it was originally called St. Mark's Church. The church was the first building for a planned open-air museum that was ultimately not realized. The free-standing church tower dates from the 17th century.
Around 1907/1908 the plan was to demolish the scrap wood church in Syrin, whereupon it was included in the list of art monuments (directory VI 10) “which have a special scientific, historical or artistic value” of the provincial commission. This preserved the church.
In 2009 a lapidarium was built on the church grounds. There are currently u. a. the tombstones of Szczepan Gaida and Carl Pelchel .
