Ethics classes in individual countries

In Germany, where education is one of the competencies of the individual federal states, ethics instruction is usually a substitute for denominational religious instruction. In some countries, however, it is also offered as an elective or a regular subject. The latter is only the case in Berlin, where denominational lessons can also be attended voluntarily as an optional subject that is not relevant to advancement.

In Austria, the introduction of compulsory ethics lessons in schools is also being discussed.
