Eurocard is an umbrella brand for credit cards belonging to the Mastercard company and discontinued in 2003 .

It was first introduced in 1964 by the Swedish banker Wallenberg . As early as 1965, Eurocard International SA , based in Brussels, was founded as a credit card organization for several European banks, making Eurocard an international means of payment that was the only alternative to the hitherto purely US-American offer.

In 1968 Eurocard International and the US credit card company Mastercard International concluded a strategic alliance through which Eurocard became a globally recognized means of payment. By 1999 Eurocard had issued 8.8 million cards in Germany alone.

The Eurocard brand was given up in 2003 as an umbrella brand for credit cards in favor of Mastercard . In Scandinavia , however, Eurocard continues to exist as a brand for Mastercard credit cards.
