European worker protection directives

The European workers protection directives were issued by the European Community based on Article 137 (Article 118) of the common European act for the protection of workers.

These directives define minimum standards; a member state can therefore go beyond the level of protection provided by the directives. With these directives, on the one hand, social dumping , i.e. cost competition between the Member States due to low social standards, is to be avoided;
