European History Online (EGO) is a freely accessible website that publishes scholarly contributions on the history of Europe between 1450 and 1950. EGO is published by the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz in cooperation with the competence center for electronic cataloging and publication processes in the humanities of the University of Trier and the Bavarian State Library in Munich . The editorial board consists of the two directors of the institute and 25 other European scientists from historically working disciplines. The project is funded by the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and the German Research Foundation .

concept

EGO looks at modern European history from a transcultural / transnational perspective and across disciplinary and methodological boundaries. The contributions in German and English are linked to different contextual materials (images, maps, videos, digitized sources, music, etc.) and bundled in ten threads:

  • Theories and methods: methodological-theoretical approaches to a transcultural history of Europe
  • Background: Europe as a communication space - requirements and background
  • Crossroads: spaces of condensed communication
  • Models and stereotypes : Modeling and stereotypes in intercultural transfer processes
  • Europe on the move: migrants and travelers as mediators of intercultural transfers
  • European media: media and media events
  • European networks: Transfer of ideas, techniques and practices in personal relationships
  • Transnational Movements and Organizations: Groups with cross-border programs and structures
  • Alliances and war: defense and learning processes through military victories and defeats
  • Europe and the world: entanglements and reflections between "Europe" and the non-European world
