The European Biostimulant Industry Council (EBIC) is a European association of manufacturers of plant strengtheners (biostimulants). The association was founded in 2011 as the European Biostimulant Industry Consortium with a name change in 2013 and based in Antwerp .

background

In the countries of the European Union there are very different approval criteria for the use of biostimulants or bioeffectors in plant production.

The association sees itself as an association of specialists in crop production with special knowledge of the function of soil organisms and plant extracts. Biostimulants affect nutrient uptake, nutrient effectiveness, tolerance to abiotic stress, and plant quality without being a nutrient themselves. They also have no direct effect against plant diseases and pests and are therefore not subject to the Plant Protection Act .

The approval criteria for these plant strengtheners are regulated very differently in the member states of the European Union. The harmonization of the approval should take place by the end of 2017, whereby the EPIC wants to work for the goals of its members.
