European Influenza Surveillance Scheme

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Influenza Surveillance Scheme , EISS for short, is a program for pan-European influenza surveillance. It was founded in 1996 by the EU . The aim is to reduce the number of deaths from flu illnesses in Europe. EISS continuously collects data on flu cases from around 35 European countries. The data on flu cases are supplied by a total of 13,000 doctors and a total of over 40 reference laboratories. EISS thus also serves as an early warning system for possible flu epidemics . All 27 member states of the EU as well as the United Kingdom , Norway , Serbia, Switzerland , Ukraine and Turkey are members of the EISS.
