European Rotogravure Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Rotogravure Association (ERA) eV is the international technical organization of the gravure printing industry. The association, which was founded in 1956 by the major printing and publishing houses in Europe, has worldwide membership from the areas of publication, packaging and decorative gravure printing, cylinder manufacturers and engravers, the machine, paper and ink industries, as well as catalog publishers and branded goods. The purpose of ERA according to the statutes is to promote the gravure printing process among users and customers as well as the further technical development of the process (e.g. standardization). Gravure printing is the leading process in the production of large editions of magazines and catalogs as well as foil packaging and decorative paper. ERA regularly organizes international conferences, meetings and seminars on gravure printing in Europe and overseas. Furthermore, ERA represents the interests of the gravure printing industry vis-à-vis authorities and governments, in particular vis-à-vis the EU. ERA has a cooperation agreement with the American gravure association GAAs (Gravure Association of Americas). ERA is also the publisher of the specialist magazine Gravure News, which is distributed worldwide. The ERA secretariat is based in Munich. James Siever has been ERA's General Secretary since 2000.
