Expo Québec

The Expo Québec is a trade fair event in the Canadian city ​​of Québec . It takes place at the end of August and is dedicated to agriculture . The venue is the ExpoCité exhibition center in the La Cité-Limoilou arrondissement . Traditionally, the fair marks the end of the summer season. In addition to the agricultural part, the event also includes a goods fair, a temporary amusement park and various cultural events. Around 400,000 visitors are counted each time.

The first fair in Québec took place on October 20, 1818 behind the riding and parade hall Manège militaire de Québec on the Abraham plain and was organized by the Société d'agriculture de Québec . In the 1850s, exhibitions followed in various cities in the province. Québec hosted the first time in 1854 and then alternated with Montreal .

At the suggestion of Senator Auguste Landry , the Compagnie de l'Exposition de Québec was founded in 1892 . The first Expo Québec took place in 1894, again on the Abraham plain. In 1898, the company acquired a site called Propriété Gowen , the current location of ExpoCité. In 1898 the site was the first venue for the agricultural fair, which over the years has become more and more important. In 1911 the city of Quebec bought the site.
