Ezra Reuben Baker (born March 23, 1913 in Essex Fells , New Jersey , † April 30, 1990 ) was an American film producer , film director and film actor who was nominated for two of the short films he produced for an Oscar , of which he was one could take home.

Life notes

Almost nothing is known about Baker, who first appeared publicly in 1960 with his short film Day of the Painter . For the short film Day of the Painter , created by him in collaboration with director Robert P. Davis , he was awarded an Oscar in 1961 in the category “Best Short Film” . In a high-spirited, very comical parody that has abstract-expressionist painting as its theme, a painter fills a canvas in a very unusual way and at the end cuts up the work he has created again to throw the individual parts into a river.

Baker also scored points with the short film Koncert , produced in 1963, and was again nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Short Film” category, which then went to the Belgian-French film duo Paul de Roubaix and Marcel Ichac and the literary adaptation La rivière du hibou , whose Action revolves around a man who is about to be hanged on a bridge during the Civil War . In the film Koncert , produced by Baker , some vacationers spontaneously hold a concert on a piano that is on the beach and has been abandoned by three young men.

In his 1967 short film Space , Baker directed, scripted and also acted as his own actor. The film shows an elderly man trying to park his Rolls-Royce in pain. Baker made his last appearance with this film.
