FKB - The Liechtenstein health insurance company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FKB - The Liechtenstein health insurance company is one of the three recognized health insurance companies in the Principality of Liechtenstein , as well as the only one of these health insurance companies that is not just a branch of a Swiss health insurance company.

The FKB is a member of the Liechtenstein Health Insurance Association (LKV).

Services

In addition to the statutory basic insurance (Obligatory Health Insurance OKG), the FKB offers voluntary supplementary insurance and loss of earnings insurance.

history

The origins of the FKB go back to the year 1925, when the «Balzner Krankenkasse» was founded as a private initiative. In the course of time it developed from a health support association for men to a fund open to everyone living in Balzers , and finally to a nationwide health insurance company with a full range of services. The "Balzner Krankenkasse" became the "Freiwillige Krankenkasse Balzers".

After the introduction of a new health insurance law on April 1, 2000, various Swiss insurance companies that had previously been active in Liechtenstein withdrew. This reduction in the number of competitors led to an increase in the number of members of the voluntary health insurance company Balzers. In 2002, the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein decided to merge the Freiwilligen Krankenkasse Balzers with the troubled Liechtenstein Health Insurance Fund (LKK), which is threatened with bankruptcy . The merger was implemented on January 1, 2003. The voluntary health insurance company Balzers took over the entire insurance portfolio of the LKK, which led to an increase in the number of insured persons from 1,500 to 8,000.

In mid-2008, the voluntary health insurance company Balzers changed its name to "FKB - The Liechtenstein Health Insurance Fund".
