The Flyers AG (formerly Biketec AG ) based in Huttwil is a Swiss manufacturer of electric bikes . With around 300 employees, the company is the largest employer in the region.

According to its own information, the company produces and sells up to 60,000 e-bikes per year (as of 2018), with the export share being around 75%. The company's two main export markets are Germany and the Benelux countries. The company is also present on the Swiss, Austrian, French and Italian markets.

history

In 1993, Philipp Kohlbrenner built his own motorized bicycle. For this he used a wiper motor from a truck and a car battery. To check the performance of the motor, he used an ammeter and a simple toggle switch on the bicycle handlebar to start. With this prototype of an electrified bicycle as the basis, the company BKTech AG developed a first series product in small series under the FLYER brand between 1995 and 1999.

The demand for new mobility concepts at the beginning of the 2000s triggered strong growth in the company. In the course of this, the BKTech company built the first plant in Europe designed exclusively for e-bikes in 2009 in Huttwil.

In 2015 FLYER AG bought the trading partner Biketech AG in Austria and Amazing Wheels in the Netherlands.

In July 2017, the Zweirad -kauf-Genossenschaft (ZEG) with headquarters in Cologne (DE) took over 100% of the share capital of Flyer AG. In 2018 FLYER AG took over the FLYER activities of the previous BKTech AG.

Products

The FLYER brand was created in several stages from an increasing need for mobility. After the first prototype of an electrified bicycle, the FLYER Classic followed from 1995 to 1999, the first series models.

In 2003, with the FLYER C series, lithium-ion technology was used for the first time in an electric bicycle in Europe. This significantly reduced the weight and increased the range.

The current models (as of 2020) are divided into the 4 product lines Mountain , Crossover , Tour and Urban .
