technical features

The E.428.007 locomotive in Rimini in June 1973

The machines had the 2BoBo2 axis sequence - not like the previously standardized 2D2 axis sequence. This improved the ability of the locomotives to turn in curves . The E 428 series has eight motors that are coupled to form units of two motors each. There were three different versions, which only differed externally:

  • 001-122: central structure with two "Avancorpi" stems
  • 123-203: closed superstructure and "Semi-Aerodinamica" driver's cab moved to the front
  • 204-242: Front panel and body connected in aerodynamic form "Aerodinamica"
