The Association of Air Traffic Control Germany e. V. (FDF) is a professional association for the improvement of safety in air traffic in Europe as well as the protection of professional and social interests of the employees of the air traffic control services in Germany.

history

In January 1961 the forerunner of the FDF was founded under the name Fachverband der Deutschen Flugfernmelder (FDFF). The approximately 60 members were air traffic control telecommunications operators from the air traffic control telecommunications center and the local telecommunications office in Frankfurt am Main. In the following years the number of members increased to approx. 200, spread over the whole of Germany.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the name FDFF ( Fachverband der Flugfernmelder ) was changed to FDF ( Association of Flight Data Processors ), thus offering assistants in the air traffic control service the option of membership in the association.

In 1994 the status and meaning of the acronym FDF were changed. Since then the name has been Fachverband der Flugsicherung Deutschland . Members can now all employees of the DFS (German Air Traffic Control), the LBA (Federal Aviation Office), the LBA administrative office for air traffic control at the LBA and related companies such as B. the Group EAD in Rödelheim, the European Agency for Aviation Safety , the European Organization for the Safety of Aviation , the Federal Supervisory Office for Air Traffic Control or the Federal Agency for Aircraft Accident Investigation .

In 2011, the Air Traffic Control Association celebrated its 50th anniversary, making it the only civil professional association in the area of ​​air traffic control. All other professional associations for civil air traffic control in Germany, e.g. B. FTI - VDF, went into the air traffic control union GDF.

Purpose and tasks

The purpose of the professional association is to improve the safety of air traffic in Europe and to protect the professional and social interests of the employees of the air navigation services through:

  • Promotion of the technical qualifications of employees in air traffic control
  • Cooperation and exchange of experience with national and international professional and specialist associations
  • Cooperation with all participants, authorities and institutions in the field of aviation
  • Informing members, trade unions and the interested public
  • Further and advanced training of the association members
  • The FDF has no commercial business interests / business operations
