Falam

A falam is a small round plate made of rubber, plastic or similar soft material that is glued to the bass drum of a drum kit , among other things , exactly where the mallet meets the skin.

On the one hand, this protects the skin from deep impressions (so-called impacts ) and, on the other hand, it creates a more robust kick sound with more attack. The minimal attenuation by the Falam is negligible with the correct playing technique.
