Fargo class
The Fargo class was a United States Navy cruiser class .
General
Originally 13 light cruisers were planned, but only two cruisers were completed. Both cruisers were a modification of the Cleveland class from 1942, in which the two funnels were combined into a slightly thicker one in order to create more favorable stroking angles for the numerous flak. Overall, the Fargo class had a lot in common with the Cleveland class. Armor, armament and other properties remained the same. Nevertheless, both units looked significantly different, as the positions of the fire control devices for sea target artillery and heavy flak were interchanged and the 12.7 cm twin towers were placed one deck lower to improve the center of gravity of the ships. The various modifications (as mentioned above) that distinguished this class from the Cleveland class meant that the start of construction was delayed and no more than two cruisers could be completed.
Because both cruisers were only completed shortly before the end of the war, they were no longer used in World War II .
