Fatou Waggeh

Fatou Waggeh (rarely Fatoumatta Waggeh or Fatoumata Waggeh ) is a Gambian feminist .

Life

Waggeh was the victim of female genital mutilation at the age of 15 , supported by her family for reasons of tradition.

Since at least 1999 she has been director of the Gambian foundation Foundation for Research on Women's Health, Productivity and the Environment (BAFROW), which advocates better medical care for women and against genital mutilation.

In 2001 she took part in a conference in Rome organized by the Association of Italian Women for Development (AIDOS).

Awards

In 2008 Waggeh received the Order of the Republic of The Gambia from the Gambian President Yahya Jammeh in the officer level .
