Australis fauna

Fauna Australis is a Chilean research program on fauna in Chile and the Andean region as well as socio-cultural aspects.

The Fauna Australis Wildlife Laboratory is the most established research group for applied conservation biology in Chile and is headed by Cristian Bonacic . The program is part of the Natural Resources Program of the Catholic University of Chile ( Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile - PUC). Fauna Australis cooperates with institutes and universities worldwide.

Fauna Australis was founded in 2001 by Bonacic and aims to protect the fauna of southern Latin America through applied research. The multidisciplinary research team is made up of agronomists, biologists, forest scientists, geographers and veterinarians. The research deals with current questions of biodiversity research under the influence of climate change. In addition to many aspects of current ecosystem and nature conservation research, the team also covers ethno-biological research that deals with the population groups of the Aymara and Mapuche .
