Field test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A field test in production or process engineering is the penultimate empirical attempt by a manufacturer to test the production quality under real conditions that cannot be manipulated before the pilot series . The term was taken from sociology and indicates that a new device is no longer used in the laboratory, but by buyers who have not been recruited by the manufacturer or selected in any way.

The difference to the field experiment lies in the fact that the participating users are real buyers and are usually informed about the field test . As a buyer, you are also not rewarded for participating in an experiment - on the contrary, you pay the real price for the device, which, since you are interested in buying it, remains in your possession after the field test has ended . The advantage for the participants lies in the free participation in the technical improvements during the test phase.
