The feast of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist (Latin: Festum S. Ioannis, Apostoli et Evangelistae ) is a liturgical commemoration in the church year of the Roman Catholic Church . It is celebrated on December 27th , the third day of the octave of Christmas . According to tradition, the apostle John was the author of the Gospel of John , the Epistles of John and the Revelation of John . The day of remembrance has been attested since the 4th century.

The so-called St. John's Wine can be blessed on this day in the Catholic Church . The Legenda aurea tells of the apostle that he had a cup of poisoned wine that was handed to him, blessed with the sign of the cross and then drunk it undamaged.

The event can also be found in the Protestant service book as the “Day of the Apostle and Evangelist John” . The gospel of the day is Joh 21 : 20–24  LUT , the liturgical festival color is white.
