File spreading engine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A file spreading engine is a service used to distribute files over the Internet . The files uploaded by the user (once) are mirrored on several previously selected share hosts.

Applications

The advantage of these services is that they circumvent the limitations of the share host, such as only one simultaneous download or a maximum of 100 MB per hour. Customers are also given the option of switching to functioning ones if one or more share hosters fail - so there is a high level of failure safety and the data is almost always available.

Legal problems

On July 31, 2008, GEMA announced that it would now take active action against file spreading engines, as they would support or facilitate black copying . Many file readers then received a warning. Most of these services have not been available since then.
