Final girl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The female hero character in a horror film (typically slasher films ) is called a final girl (as much as "last survivor") or survivor girl . The term goes back to Carol J. Clover's book Men, Women and Chain Saws: Gender in the Modern Horror Film (1992), in which she applied the concept to films such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Halloween .

The final girl usually survives the film to the end and confronts the killer, whereby she can either put him out of action herself or someone can save her at the last moment. According to the genre conventions, the final girl is conscientious, celibate and behaves morally, e.g. B. by abstaining from alcohol and other drugs .

The best known actress of Final Girls in the early days of the slasher film was Jamie Lee Curtis .
