Flag desecration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A flag desecration is colloquially the degradation or destruction (e.g. by burning ) a flag of a state or country. In many countries such an act is made a criminal offense. So is z. B. in Austria in § 248 StGB the "degradation of the state and its symbols" with up to six months imprisonment, and in Germany in § 90a StGB " denigration of the state and its symbols " threatened with a prison sentence of up to three years. In the USA, a corresponding legislative proposal ( Flag Desecration Amendment ) has received the necessary two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives for every vote since 1995 , but if there was a vote, it failed every time in the Senate due to the existing majorities. The last time this happened was on June 27, 2006 with a result of 66:34.
