Tile remover
A tile remover or tile remover is an attachment for a hot air blower that is used for the non-destructive removal of ceramic tiles .
This device made of metal forms a closed space that can be steplessly adjusted to the size of the tile without protruding from the neighboring tile. This is necessary so as not to negatively affect the tile adhesive of the neighboring tiles and at the same time enables edge and corner tiles to be loosened.
The stepless adjustment is made by mechanically moving all interior walls, which can move in and out of each other. If the device is set to the size of the tile, so that the joints around the tile are covered by the inside walls of the device, approx. 400–600 ° C hot air is blown in from above through the air inlet nozzle with any hot air blower.
The duration for the removal of the tiles is dependent on the nature of the tile adhesive and requires a time of approximately three to eight minutes: this time, by the heating of the tile and the tile adhesive, a temperature of up to about 250 ° C on the tile adhesive reaches . The tile detaches itself from the tile adhesive and loosens at a temperature of approx. 150 to 250 ° C.
To use this device and method, it is necessary to cut or remove the joints around the tile down to the floor or wall. Here it is advisable to fill the freely cut joint with water mixed with washing-up liquid in order to relieve the surface tension of the water. This way it runs better under the tile so that the water vapor also loosens the tile through pressure. With larger tiles you should try to loosen the tile at certain intervals with a spatula (or similar) by gently levering it. Since it can quickly happen that the tile only partially loosens and a hairline crack occurs or the tile is completely broken. After the tile has been loosened, it is placed in a safe place to cool down and can then be used again.
The device is mainly used in the rehabilitation of water damage , leak detection and pipe bursts.
