Flim & the BB's

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flim & the BB's were a jazz fusion band formed in Minneapolis in the late 1970s and one of the first non-classical ensembles whose music was recorded digitally. The band's name is derived from the nickname 'Flim' of bassist Jimmy Johnson and the two BBs, Bill Berg (percussion) and Billy Barber (piano, keyboards and synthesizers). Later saxophonist Dick Oatts joined them.

For the band's debut album, the prototype of a digital recording machine was used that did not yet meet any of the technical standards specified later and was "scrapped" a short time later, so that remastering of these recordings is not possible.

The band's second album, Tricycle , was the first non-classical recording to be digitally recorded, mastered and released in CD format.

Several albums (Tricycle, Tunnel, Big Notes) have been voted Jazz CD of the Year by Digital Audio . Most of the albums appeared on the indie label DMP, and in the early 1990s they switched to the major label Warner .
