Flobert (ammunition)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Flobert cartridge is a type of ammunition in which the detonating agent is also the propellant. The inventor was the French gunsmith Louis Nicolas Auguste Flobert , who in the middle of the 19th century also used fumed mercury , which had previously only been used as an ignition agent, as a propellant. He had this cartridge patented in 1846.

Flobert rifles , which are also known as Zimmer rifles or Zimmerstutzen , fire weak rimfire ammunition with a round or pointed bullet in caliber 4 to 9 mm; Flobert shotgun cartridges and blank cartridges are also available.
