The Football League Second Division 1947/48 was the 45th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 23, 1947 and ended on May 1, 1948.

Second division champion was Birmingham City and also the second-placed Newcastle United rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted players in the following second division season 1948/49, the two first division clubs Blackburn Rovers and Grimsby Town ranked in the table below took the places. The Doncaster Rovers and FC Millwall had to relegate from the Second Division , with Doncaster now having to compete in the North Season Football League Third Division North and Millwall in the Football League Third Division South . Instead of the two clubs took the free positions in the following season 1948/49 Third Division North champions Lincoln City FC and from the Third Division South of the winner Queens Park Rangers .
