Forwarding Equivalence Class

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term forwarding equivalence class is used in multiprotocol label switching . It is a subset of data packets with the same or similar characteristics, which are all handled in the same way by routers . Treated the same means that they are put on the same output with the same label and thus the next hop also matches.

The characteristics used depend on the configuration of the router , but typically contain at least the destination IP address and often also the Quality of Service class.
