Franquemont (Mint)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The dominion of Franquemont around Goumois JU was raised to imperial free rule (imperial barony) by Emperor Charles V in 1538 . Nicolas Gilley, now baron or Freiherr von Franquemont, had his own coins minted between 1553 and 1555. It is Beischläge to French and Swiss coins.

Mint dominions

In Franquemont, coins were only minted for the Franquemont reign under Nicolas de Gilley. The mint will then read "N. GILLEI BARO », d. H. "Baron N (icolas) Gilley" called.

Location

Franquemont Castle, which was destroyed in 1677, is generally accepted as the location of the associated mint. However, this is neither proven by written sources nor by archaeological findings.

staff

There are no mint masters or die cutters of the Franquemont baron known by name.
