The women's centers are a form of organization that emerged in the Swiss women's movement from the First World War . There are currently 21 women's centers in Switzerland, each of which has its own organization, objectives and areas of responsibility. The women's centers define the common goal of “achieving equality between women and men in the world of work, society and politics”.

In the various cities of Switzerland , the women's centers coordinate local and regional women's associations and offer discussion and information platforms. They represent the interests of women and their organizations vis-à-vis the authorities and work on federal legislation.

The Aargau women's center is the umbrella organization for 70 socio-political, political, professional and charitable organizations in Aargau . The women's center BE has set itself the goal of promoting and encouraging women to participate and actively participate in society, both in business, politics, culture and social life. By showing them rights and opportunities, she wants to encourage women to take the initiative for their own well-being.

As a hub between committed women, women's organizations, authorities, political bodies, social institutions and other like-minded people and institutions, the women's center BE has a large pool of specialist knowledge and expertise.

The women's center BE was founded in 1920 as an amalgamation of the women's associations of the city of Bern and was later expanded to include association and individual members from all over the Canton of Bern.

Around 90 organizations and almost 600 individual members have come together to form an association in today's umbrella organization “Frauenzentrale BE”.

Since 1984 the women's center BE has been awarding the Trudy Schlatter Prize for women's works in memory of the artist Trudy Schlatter (1912–1980). The prize is awarded annually to women, women’s organizations, groups or projects from the canton of Bern who have rendered outstanding services to women’s concerns or through their artistic work. It is endowed with 5000 francs and is fed from a fund from your legacy.

The price is advertised at the end of March. The deadline for submitting applications is May 31. The award ceremony takes place in autumn of the respective year.
