Fred J. Rode
Frederick "Fred" J. Rode (born May 19, 1896 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York , † October 1971 in Washington, DC ) was an American production designer who was once nominated for an Oscar for best production design .
Life
Rode began his career as a production designer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1939 with that of John Ford staged Western Drums Along the Mohawk (Drums Along the Mohawk) in which Henry Fonda , Claudette Colbert and Edna May Oliver played the leading roles. Until 1953 he worked on the staging of more than forty films.
At the Academy Awards in 1952 , Rode was nominated for the Oscar for Best Production Design in a Black and White Film, along with Lyle R. Wheeler , Leland Fuller and Thomas Little , for the feature film Fourteen Hours (Fourteen Hours, 1951) by Henry Hathaway with Paul Douglas , Richard Basehart and Barbara Bel Geddes .
