The Free Evangelical Lutheran Synod in South Africa is an Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa that was founded by German emigrants in the 19th century.

history

The emergence of the Free Evangelical Lutheran Synod in South Africa is linked to the revival movement around Ludwig Harms from Hermannsburg. In addition to missionaries, craftsmen and farmers were also sent out to support the missionary work among the local population. This church was founded on September 13, 1892 and is the oldest independent Lutheran church in South Africa. She has remained connected to the Lutheran Church Mission (Bleckmarer Mission) eV through the decades of missionary work and has temporarily taken over the missionary work during the time of National Socialism and the Second World War.

structure

The church is led by the Synodal Council, chaired by Bishop Dieter Reinsdorf.
