from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The free trade agreement between Colombia and the USA (Spanish Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Colombia y los Estados Unidos , TLC), on February 27, 2006, Colombia and the USA, after intensive 21 months of negotiations with considerable delays, about the creation of a bilateral Agreement, entered into force on May 15, 2012.

The agreement aims to expand bilateral trade between the United States and Colombia. There are plans to exempt the majority of industrial goods, but also some agricultural products. Colombia expects the agreement to increase its gross domestic product by up to one percentage point and to increase exports to the USA by 50% in the following years. The South American country wants to systematically expand its bilateral trade agreements and thus gain access to external markets. The Colombian government officially admitted that there will be privileged and disadvantaged people after the free trade agreement comes into force.
