The Sichuan Foreign Language University (Chinese 四川 外国语 大学 ,, English Sichuan International Studies University, abbreviation SISU) is a university for foreign languages and international research in Chongqing . It is the only state foreign language university in southwest China and an important research center for international affairs.
The university is not a full university and offers a comparatively narrow range of subjects focused on foreign languages. In addition to foreign languages, the university offers courses in economics, the humanities and social sciences, such as B. International Economics, International Relations and Media Studies .
With 77 universities from 22 countries, the university has established partnerships at the university-wide and faculty level. Every year over 400 students are sent abroad through 94 exchange programs; conversely, over 400 foreign students come to Chongqing to study at the Sichuan Foreign Language University.
history
The history of the Sichuan Foreign Language University goes back to 1950. That year, the Russian Language Group was established at the Southwest Army College.
In 1951, the group evolved into a Russian learning association that was part of the Chinese People's Army's Second Infantry College. In 1953, the learning association was expanded to become the south-western technical college for Russian language.
In view of the ever increasing communications with foreigners, the demand for professionals with knowledge of foreign languages increased. Against this background, the Sichuan People's Commission decided in 1959 to transform the Southwestern University of Applied Sciences for Russian Language into the Sichuan Foreign Language Institute. Two four-year courses in Russian and English were offered, and in the following years several foreign language subjects such as German and French were introduced.
In 2013, the Sichuan Foreign Language Institute was renamed the Sichuan Foreign Language University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
