The Friedrich Bödecker Circle consists of regional associations that are dedicated to promoting reading . There is a regional association in almost all German federal states. There are memberships in the regional associations. The federal association (based in Magdeburg) primarily has coordinating tasks. The name is reminiscent of the pedagogue Friedrich Bödecker .

history

In 1953, the book, film, television working group was founded in Hanover . In 1954 she was registered in the Friedrich-Bödecker-Kreis Hannover e. V. renamed after its co-founder. In the 1970s and 1980s, independent regional associations were founded in all federal states. After the unification of Germany, regional associations also emerged in the new federal states. The Lower Saxony pedagogue Friedrich Bödecker invited authors to schools as early as the 1920s.

tasks and goals

Authors' encounters , especially in schools, are organized by the regional associations. They also organize exhibitions of books for children and young people, book weeks for young people and specialist conferences.

The Friedrich Bödecker Prize is awarded every two years .

activity

Today over 6000 readings are held annually for over 240,000 schoolchildren in Germany.

Author database

Over the years the association has published a directory of authors who are available for meetings in schools. The directory of almost 400 authors is now also available on the Internet.
