Africa Cup of Women 2016 / Qualification
23 African women's national soccer teams were registered to qualify for the 2016 Africa Cup of Nations. For the first time, Libya and Mauritius reported , for which these were also the first international matches of their women's national teams.
The qualification was played in two rounds in a knockout system with two legs. In the first round the 18 weaker nations should compete against each other, but since the team of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was withdrawn, there were only eight pairings and Kenya came into the second round without a fight. With the five national teams ( Equatorial Guinea , Ivory Coast , Ghana , Nigeria and South Africa ) that were best placed in the FIFA world rankings in December 2015 together with hosts Cameroon, the winners determined the seven teams that, together with the host Cameroon , competed for the Finals qualified.
First round
The first legs were scheduled for March 4 to 6, 2016, the second legs were for March 18 to 20, 2016.

Second round
The first legs were initially scheduled for April 8-10, but now took place from April 6-9, 2016. The second legs were originally scheduled for April 22 to 24, 2016, but were then scheduled for April 10 to 12. During this time, games in the qualification for the European Championship 2017 and friendly games on other continents took place, so that normal league operations were suspended and the players who played for European clubs could be released for the games. The winners qualified alongside the host for the 2016 Africa Cup of Women.

After qualifying, Equatorial Guinea was excluded due to a player who was not eligible to play. Mali moved up for this.
