The Fuji FA-200 was the first 4-seat light aircraft developed exclusively in Japan , which went into series production and was mainly intended for export . It was developed and built by Fuji Heavy Industries .
History and construction
The design work began in 1964, a prototype , the FA-200-II, flew for the first time on August 12, 1965. The basic version of the FA-200 was to serve as the basis for a light 4-seater touring aircraft, a 2-seat training aircraft and a single-seat agricultural aircraft .
However, only the 4-seater touring aircraft was ready for series production. The FA-200 is a conventional low-wing aircraft with a rigid landing gear and aerobatic capabilities. An interesting feature is that the FA-200 can be flown with the cockpit open in normal cruise flight. In aerobatics it can only be occupied by 2 people.
Three versions of the FA-200 went into production. The FA-200-160 (4-seater) with a 160 hp strong engine Lycoming, the FA 200-180 (also 4-seater) thick with a 180 hp injection engine of Lycoming and FA-200-180AO. The latter was a stripped down version of the FA-200-180 with a rigid propeller and carburetor engine .
By 1977, 274 Fuji FA-200s were built, and by 1986 a further 25 units were produced by special orders.
Friends and owners of this aircraft are gathered in Germany within the Fuji Club Germany eV to keep these aircraft airworthy in the long term.
