GNU Savannah is a developer site of the Free Software Foundation , which provides many resources such as CVS servers, GNU arch repositories, mailing lists , web forums, download servers, etc. to all developers who develop free software .

GNU Savannah was created as a reaction to the release of a proprietary version of the Sourceforge developer software in version 3, which now also runs on the popular Sourceforge developer site. GNU Savannah therefore uses version 2 of this software, which is under GPL . In order to better distinguish between the website and the software used for it, the software was named Savane (the French spelling for savanna). The main development of Savane at the moment is mainly taking place on Gna! instead of.

All software for the GNU project is also developed on GNU Savannah , in which anyone can participate.

Developers who want to use GNU Savannah must choose a license that corresponds to the Free Software Foundation's concept of free software or that is compatible with the GNU General Public License .
