The GPU-2A is a weapon station with a 20 mm - Gatling gun of the US armed forces. Today it is mainly used in the AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter ; in the past it was also used to arm light observation and ground attack aircraft such as the OV-10 Bronco .

The GPU-2A is mounted under the wings and contains a rigidly attached M197 -20 mm Gatling cannon with three barrels and its own drive motor, 300 rounds of beltless M-50 or PGU ammunition, the control electronics and its own battery for the Power supply. The ammunition is ignited electrically and the rate of fire can be set to 750 or 1,500 rounds per minute in the cockpit. In theory, the M197 can fire rates of 2,000 to 3,000 rounds per minute. In practice, it is reduced to 730 rounds per minute and fired in a burst of 100 rounds.

The GPU-2A is used in addition to the movable M197 on the A / A49E-7 gun mount under the cockpit of the Cobra.
