Electroplating (press shop)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Electroplating is a process that is used in the production of CDs . The production tool required for duplicating a CD, the stamper , is produced in several steps by electroplating . To do this, a thin metal layer is first applied to the glass master by means of electroplating and then removed, creating the “father matrix”. Now an impression of the “father matrix” is produced in the galvanic process - the “mother matrix”. This in turn is used to produce the final impressions, the “sons”, or stampers, in a further galvanic process. Before they are used to press the CDs in the injection molding machine, they are subjected to a detailed test. The factory-specific stampers are stored and can be used for subsequent pressings until they can no longer be used after about five or more years due to expiry.
