Vita

Around the year 580 he moved the bishopric from Arras to Cambrai.

Gaugerich maintained good relations with the Franconian ruler Chlothar II (r. 584–629) and took part in the Council of Paris (614) . According to tradition, he founded a church in honor of the Archangel Michael , which became an essential starting point for the development of the city of Brussels ; the cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula stands on the site today .

Adoration

After his death he was buried in the Saint-Medard church he founded; but soon his bones (relics) were divided among numerous churches, so that several churches in northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands bear his name.
