The word commandment denotes
- a binding instruction in ethics and religious studies , see commandment (ethics)
- in jurisprudence and norm theory likewise a binding instruction, but only for an (active) action (contrary to the prohibition ), see command (jurisprudence)
- at an auction, naming a price that a bidder is willing to pay. The bidder makes an offer (declaration of intent aimed at concluding a contract)
