Hazardous substances measuring point north

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bundeswehr's North Hazardous Substances Measurement Center (GefStoffMSt Nord) is the authority responsible for analyzing and evaluating hazardous substances in the workplace within the Bundeswehr for the north and east defense areas (except for the federal states of Thuringia and Saxony) and for all floating units . The measuring point belongs to the Defense Science Institute for Protective Technologies - NBC Protection .

The North Hazardous Substances Measurement Center has specific sampling procedures and analytical laboratories equipped with the latest measurement technology .

For the investigation of the pollutants, the measuring point has numerous direct-reading measuring devices as well as pump systems for personal and stationary sampling on, for example, activated carbon tubes, silica gel tubes, filters for subsequent laboratory testing.

The Hazardous Substances Measuring Point North (GefStoffMSt N) is accredited as an external measuring point by the Central Office of the Federal States for Safety Technology (ZLS) and thus has the competence to determine and assess the concentration of dangerous substances in the air in work areas. The accreditation includes:

Group 1 Aerosols (without fiber dust)
Group 2 Fiber dust
Group 3 inorganic gases and vapors
Group 4 organic gases and vapors
Group 5 Selected parameters / areas: phthalic acid / esters, PCB, PCP, nitrosamines and isocyanates

If only the suspicion of pollutants is based on unknown "suspicious" rumors, the effort for indoor air analysis would be very great. It is therefore possible to request passive collectors from the North Hazardous Substances Monitoring Center. These are used, for example, to record volatile organic components in the air and to identify possible pollutants through a so-called “screening” of the samples.

In many areas of the Bundeswehr, just like in the civilian area, hazardous substances are handled on a daily basis; in workshops for welding work, when working with wood and in paint shops, to name just a few. To protect employees, hazardous substances measurements and assessments are carried out at the workplaces in compliance with the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances and the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS). The occupational exposure limit values published in TRGS 900 are used here. a. as a basis for evaluation. The GefStoffMSt N can fall back on many years of experience, so that even with unknown sources, for example when unknown "smells" occur, statements can be made on the basis of room air or work area analyzes about potentially existing hazardous substances. Expert opinions and reports are prepared on an analytical basis in accordance with the work instructions (AAW) integrated in the quality management system (QMS).
