use

Flamed flags were used in Switzerland because there is actually no flag that is different from the coat of arms, and so the coat of arms is used as a flag, in contrast to most other countries. There were often noble coats of arms and coats of arms with ornaments, shield bearers and motto in use. Flamed flags fell out of use and are rarely used today.
